2

Place your tray on the scale in front of the food component you want to take. Wait until a scoop icon appears on the display above the food, and only then take the food. When you are finished, wait for the green checkmark to appear on the display. Now your food has been weighed, and you can move on to the next food component.*

3

Show your personal QR code in the app to the reader at the checkout, and your dining information will be transferred to your app.

4

If you took drinks or other side items, such as bread or salad dressing, add them to your meal information in the app under Ruokailut (Meals) > Lisukkeet (Sides).

5

After your meal, sort any bio-waste into the bio-waste bin and give quick feedback on the food using the smiley face scale.

*Please note that this is a scale system. Do not place any extra weight on the scale during the weighing process, as it will affect your weighing results and nutritional information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Using the Lunch Lines

There is an identification sticker on the bottom of the tray, which the scale uses to recognize the tray. Unfortunately, sometimes the sticker comes off or gets damaged during washing. If the scale does not recognize the tray and the scoop icon does not appear on the display, make sure the sticker on the bottom of the tray looks intact and that you have placed the tray in the center of the scale. If the sticker appears damaged, replace the tray with a new one.

The taring of the tray takes about half a second, and when the taring is complete, the scoop icon and “0 g” will appear on the display. Sometimes taring may take longer if the tray is not placed in the center of the scale, the identification sticker on the bottom of the tray is faulty, or if you touch the tray during taring. Once you have placed the tray on the scale, remove your hands from the tray and wait for the scoop icon to appear on the display.

To ensure the initial weight of the tray is correctly calculated on the scale, the plate, glass, cutlery, and other “basic items” must be on the tray before placing it on the scale. When you place the tray on the scale and the scoop icon appears on the display, you can lift the plate and take food. When you place the plate back on the tray, wait for the green checkmark to appear on the display before moving to the next food component.

The scales react to vibrations, which can cause a fluctuation of a few grams in the weighing readings during busy times. Take your food and then wait for the green checkmark to appear on the display, indicating a successful weighing.

In this case, the weighing and/or taring of the tray may have failed. You may have lifted the tray from the previous scale before the food was weighed or started taking new food before your tray was tared. When you place the tray on the scale, wait for the scoop icon to appear on the display before taking food. Take the food, and when you are finished, wait for the green checkmark to appear on the display.

At the Cash Desk

Place the tray in the designated area at the cash desk. Open your personal QR code from the top right corner of the My Flavoria app and show it to the reader next to the payment terminal. A checkmark will appear on the screen at the cash desk when the QR code has been successfully read.

Make sure that the reader is active, indicated by a red light. Align the QR code with the reader and try scanning the code from slightly different distances.

More Information about our Research Activities

University of Turku is in charge of the research activities at Flavoria, while the practical restaurant operations are run by Sodexo. Data on food choices and weighing amounts is collected at the lunch lines and bio-waste stations even without using the My Flavoria app. However, this data cannot be linked to an individual without the app. The data is read pseudonymously, meaning without personal information.

The research data obtained from Flavoria supports the development of society and business, whether it concerns solutions or innovations related to food, multisensory experiences, technology, or sustainability.
