Flavoria is an open research platform that can be utilized not only by the University of Turku but also by other educational and research institutions, regardless of the field of science. We provide the facilities and technology around which researchers or research groups can build their setups. Flavoria’s expert team is there to support in the research design and practical aspects.
Research Preparation Process:
Initial Meeting
Contact Flavoria’s coordinator to schedule a presentation or a remote meeting. During the meeting, your research idea and the opportunities offered by Flavoria will be discussed, and if necessary, the timing of the potential research will be mapped out.
The initial meeting does not commit you to anything.
Contractual Matters
A project agreement is made with all researchers or research groups utilizing Flavoria, which defines, among other things, the timing, duration, facilities and/or data to be used, and the cost of the research.
For the representatives of Flavoria’s partner faculties, the use of Flavoria’s facilities and data is free of charge. The work contribution of the restaurant operator (Sodexo) and any additional resources (e.g., research assistants) are priced separately.
The researcher/research group is responsible for applying for an ethical committee statement for the research.
Practical Preparations and Testing of the Research Setup
Flavoria’s expert team assists with the practical preparations for the research. The setup is usually tested in advance to ensure smooth data collection before the actual research period begins.
Flavoria’s electronic channels can be used for recruiting participants, but the researcher is responsible for producing materials such as advertisements, information sheets, and privacy statements.
Data Collection and Data Transfer After the Research Period
The research is conducted in Flavoria at the agreed time.
If the research involves examining Flavoria’s data, it will be transferred to the researcher according to the project agreement after the research period.
Reporting After the Research
After the research, the researcher reports on the use of Flavoria’s data and the publications made using the research platform. Scientific publications should be sent to Flavoria’s research coordinator at flavoria@utu.fi before preliminary review.
Research Environments
Flavoria offers three different environments for constructing research setups.
